perhaps
we’ve been missing
it all along
this precious gift
that’s been placed
right in front of us
a sacred pause
for which
we did not ask
or prepare for
or rightly deserve
this gift of silence
of rest
of one small breath
amidst the chaos
we have created
for far too long
perhaps
just perhaps
we’ve been missing
waking
to silence
just sitting
and listening
hearing the birdsongs
echoes within
the welcome embrace
of our own solitude
perhaps
we’ve been missing
it all along
the faces
the eyes
the souls
in the passing of strangers
the fading smile
of our gentle mother
perhaps
we’ve been missing
the love
we once had
and squandered away
has been waiting
and waiting
patiently
quietly
for our weary return
from our brokenness
to our tranquil home
within ourselves
