awake before dawn

I journey to the still

and quiet lake

my soul awakens

as my feet enter

the icy healing water

I make my way

onto my paddleboard

smooth as glass

the trickle of my oar

a single bird awakens

not another sound

not another soul

the rest of the world

asleep

but I have awoken

within the dream

this is my sanctuary

Sunday at dawn

pink ripples

cascade

across the water

I  hear my soul

the soul of the world

whispers within

as hues of pink and orange

make their way

above the horizon

I am alone

in this sacred meditation

the world is still asleep

missing this gift of life

there is no Heaven later

it is right here and now

in this moment
